Latest Development of Regional Barometers
Afrobarometer
In conjunction with Africa
Day on May 25, the Afrobarometer has announced the release of results
from its fourth round of surveys, conducted in 19 countries during 2008.
The release also marks the 10th anniversary of the launching of the
Afrobarometer. Its first respondent was interviewed in Ghana in July
1999, and it has since completed over 105,000 interviews in 20
countries.
Arab Barometer
Aside from surveys in Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, and Kuwait, the Arab Barometer has
completed plans for two additional surveys, one in Lebanon and one in Yemen. Surveys in the two countries are
expected to be completed by early 2008.
Asian Barometer
One of our beloved
colleagues, Tianjian Shi, passed away at 1:09 PM on December 25. He
suffered from interstitial lung disease and it was caused by his dis-directed
immune system, something beyond the grasp of modern medicine. In so many
ways, he has made great contribution to Asian Barometer. It is a huge
loss for all of us.Click

thirteen
East Asian countries (the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Mongolia,
Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Cambodia
and
China) is now
available. Please see the ABS website.
Eurasia Barometer
Latinobarometro
Latinobarómetro has presented its second annual report about
international relations. In 2009, Latin America improved its opinion of
the world. However, Latin-Americans still feel that, individually they
are better than their countries.
More than half of the region prefers economic integration over political
integration.
Dr. Alejandro Moreno was named as new director in
charge of the execution of the Latinobarómetro study in the 18 countries
of the region from 2010 on.
Alejandro Moreno achieved his doctorate in Political Science in the
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, United States, in 1997, and since
1996 he has been working as a professor and researcher in the Department
of Political Science in the Autonomous Technological Institute of
Mexico, ITAM, in Mexico City.
