Globalbarometer Surveys and IDEA International co-sponsored three panels
at the 21st World Congress of International Political Science
Association, July 12-16, Santiago, Chile.

The
Globalbarometer Surveys held an executive meeting in conjunction with
the 2009 IPSA World Congress. The meeting was held on July 17-18 and
co-sponsored by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America
and the Caribbean.

Latest Development of Regional Barometers
Afrobarometer
In conjunction with Africa
Day on May 25, the Afrobarometer has announced the release of results
from its fourth round of surveys, conducted in 19 countries during 2008.
The release also marks the 10th anniversary of the launching of the
Afrobarometer. Its first respondent was interviewed in Ghana in July
1999, and it has since completed over 105,000 interviews in 20
countries.
Arab Barometer
Aside from surveys in Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, and Kuwait, the Arab Barometer has
completed plans for two additional surveys, one in Lebanon and one in Yemen. Surveys in the two countries are
expected to be completed by early 2008.
Asian Barometer
ABS second wave data for ten
East Asian countries (the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Mongolia,
Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia ) is now
available. Please see the ABS website.
Prof. Yun-han Chu,
Coordinator of Asian Barometer Survey, was recently elected to the
Council of American Political Science Association. He is the first-ever
Asia-based member of the Council of the APSA.

Latinobarometro
The fourteenth annual Latinobarómetro for 2009 report is now available.

WVS Executive Committee met in July 2009 in Stockholm to plan the 2010
wave. Marta Lagos as President of the Scientific Committee attended the
meeting, as well as Christian Haerpfer, who leads the Questionnaire
Subcommittee.
